Cambodia:
Cambodia participated in World Breastfeeding Week for the sixth year. The
week was observed with dissemination of the Sub-decree on Marketing
Products for Infant and Young Child Feeding which was signed into law
November 18, 2005, by the Cambodian Prime Minister. During World
Breastfeeding Week the sub-decree was disseminated through print and
electronic media, training of media and press personnel, airing of round
table TV spots and talk shows, radio call-in programs, and other special
events. A documentary on breastfeeding to which LINKAGES contributed
technical assistance as a member of the Infant and Young Child Feeding
Technical Working Group was shown 2-3 times a day for 2 weeks on 5
television channels as part of the commemoration.
World Breastfeeding Week 2006
(August 1-7) marked the 25th anniversary of the International Code of
Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes. To date, more than 60 governments
have enacted all or many of the provisions of the Code as law. The Code
aims to protect and promote breastfeeding by prohibiting the advertising
and aggressive marketing of breastmilk substitutes, feeding bottles, and
teats. LINKAGES was involved
in World Breastfeeding Week in several countries.
