World Breastfeeding Week Around the World: Latin America & Carribean WBW  in other countries
 
Bolivia:

Yesterday, on August 2, the law of Protection of Breastfeeding, based on the International Code, has been approved after 8 years of efforts from IBFAN-AIS BOLIVIA, the National Breastfeeding Commission and an NGO coalition.

Costa Rica:

Marta Trejos, IBFAN Regional Coordinator and WABA SC member has been widely interviewed by PAHO on the WBFW and it can be seen at http://www.paho.org/default_spa.htm and also by CNN in Spanish on the role of breastfeeding in child development and the role of WBFW.

We enclose the poster done by IBFAN, National Breastfeeding Commission and the health authorities and posted in all health care facilities all over the country.   There will be a tv-conference to all hospital to explain the Code, its history and need of implementation and on Sunday there will be 2 big meetings of breastfeeding mothers and supporting public in main parks

Peru:

There was a contest of breastfeeding photographs supported by LLL and other NGOs and UNICEF.  6 of 65 photos were chosen as winners.

Costa Rica:poster done by IBFAN, National Breastfeeding Commission and the health authorities and posted in all health care facilities all over the country.

Dominican Republic:

We enclose the poster for a national walking rally to celebrate the WBFW.   

Argentina and Honduras:

Fundación CLACYD and LACMAT organized a Code monitoring training in Córdoba.  LACMAT also organized various conferences with the nutritionists, school of medicine of the University of Buenos Aires.  Dr. Fernando Vallone from IBFAN is also supporting the National Conference on Breastfeeding in Honduras

Uruguay:

Various activities were organized by RUANDI in the country including a round table with Senators and other authorities.

Dominican Republic:national walking rally to celebrate the WBFW

Brazil:

ORIGEM is organizing public activities to distribute the breastfeeding golden ribbon and to promote the beautiful educative breastfeeding doll in various big cities and small communities. IBFAN Network is organizing the annually breastfeeding congress ENAM with more that 1000 participants for September 3, 2006.  The government and other NGOs are promoting the poster enclosed.
