World Breastfeeding Week Around the World: Malaysia           World Breastfeeding Week in other countries

In conjunction with World Breastfeeding Week, the Penang Adventist Hospital Breastfeeding Support Group ( The Kangaroo Club)  celebrated the occasion in Tesco on Sunday,  6th August 2006. The theme for this year is Code Watch: 25 years of Protecting Breastfeeding. Our event attracted 136 families even though there was a similar event in another hypermarket on the same day.

Two mothers came forth to share their breastfeeding experiences and to encourage more mothers to breastfeed. As a token of appreciation, mothers who had breastfed for more than 2 years were given certificates. For those mothers who needed advice on breastfeeding, our Kangaroo Club team members came in full force to provide support!

There were several quizzes on breastfeeding where the mothers received good prizes when they got the right answer, much to their delight

Families came in droves to have their children’s growth monitored by Dr Pong Kwai Meng , our Consultant Paediatrician.

Ms Helen Wong, our senior dietitian showed our mothers how to cook healthy baby food. Some even got to taste the yummy food!

We did not forget the fathers who had a whale of a time competing to see who could put on their baby’s nappies first! The catch is that they have to fold and use cotton nappies!

At first, the fathers were a bit shy but later on they were very aggressive when they got the hang of it!

At the end of the day, everyone went away with a better awareness on breastfeeding and of course a bagful of goodies!
