photos and we will create a webpage for you which you can use to
further promote your WBW activities to wbw@waba.org.my

Dear
2009 NW GA Breastfeeding Conference Attendee:
Enclosed
you will find your personal copy of the DVD "Breastfeeding: A Guide
to Success" that was released Summer 2009 as promised. We hope
you will take the time to view it yourself. We feel as a Coalition that
it is phenomenal! It has many unique mother/baby pairs representing
various nationalities. No doubt you will find it useful to share with
the prenatal and breastfeeding mothers that you encounter in your job
or volunteer work.
Enclosed is an order form. Bulk pricing is available. Our previous DVD,
"Getting Started with Breastfeeding", is a ten minute guide
to give mothers a good start. It will continue to be available. Like
"Breastfeeding: A Guide to Success", "Getting Started
with Breastfeeding" has both Spanish and English on the same DVD.

About
North Georgia Health District WIC Program
North
Georgia Health District WIC Program is located in the northwest corner
of Georgia, USA. The Governor in the State of Georgia signs a proclamation
endorsing Georgia Breastfeeding Awareness Month in May of each year.
Georgia boasts 274 IBCLCs in the state.
The Health District takes care of breastfeeding mothers and babies in
6 counties: Whitfield, Murray, Fannin, Gilmer, Pickens, and Cherokee
Counties. The participant demographics are 44% Hispanic and 56% Non-Hispanic.
The primary languages spoken are English and Spanish. There are 18 full
time WIC Nutritionists and 4 additional staff members who are Certified
Lactation Counselors (CLCs). They provide breastfeeding encouragement
through the monthly support groups hosted in 4 location and they have
a Breastfeeding Coordinator who makes home visits to mother/baby pairs.
Electric breast pumps are provided to help mothers who are separated
from their babies (premature babies and mothers working full time).
Last
year the team organised several events for WBW. This year they are holding
celebrations in 4 counties which will be accessible to the moms and
babies in the 6 counties which they serve. The events are planned in
parks with presentations on emergency preparedness relating to breastfeeding
and families, as well as walks around their local communities. Several
city and county officials plan to participate in a "game show"
that they are playing called "So You Think Your IQ is Higher than
a Breastfed Baby?". Local newspaper and media are expected to attend
the events.
In the district resides the not-for-profit Northwest Georgia Breastfeeding
Coalition, www.nwgabfcoalition.com,
which is comprised of La Leche League Leaders, WIC Lactation Counselors,
Certified Nurse Midwives, Hospital-Based Lactation Consultants, and
breastfeeding mothers. Together they have produced two videos in English
and Spanish, most recently a one hour long DVD released this summer
entitled "Breastfeeding: A Guide for Success". In addition,
the Coalition hosts a breastfeeding conference every spring featuring
international speakers and providing CEUs to those who attend.
